EBC

Definition:
Electronic Business Center - includes links to Patents EBC and Trademarks EBC - a web page containing hyperlinks to all online systems for conducting electronic commerce with the USPTO.

eTEAS

Definition:
Electronic Trademark Examination Application System - electronic trademark filing system. It allows the public to complete various trademark filings and transactions on-line.

Domestic Representative

Definition:
A person residing within the United States who is appointed by a patentee or assignee of a trademark application or registration that does not reside in or is not domiciled within the United States.

Trademark Application

Definition:
A document by which a person requests a federal trademark registration.

Canceled

Definition:
Trademark registration is no longer viable. It may be due to the registrant's failure to file the required continued use affidavit under Section 8 of the Trademark Act,


Digital Millennium Copyright Act

Definition:
A major piece of U.S. legislation adopted in 1998 that extensively amended the copyright laws, in part to conform U.S. law to various treaty obligations, and in part to modernize the law to take into account various new digital technologies.

Definition:
A work originating in one of the member country must be given at least the same level of protection in each member country as that country gives to works created by its own citizens.

Contributory Infringement

Definition:
Indirect infringement of intellectual property rights in which one person contributes to the direct act of infringement of another.

Notice

Definition:
A formal sign or notification attached to physical objects that embody or reproduce an intellectual property right -- for example, the use of the word "patent" or its abbreviation, "pat.," together with the patent number, on a patented article made by a patent holder or his/her licensees.
